This page explains how Cycle Gear Compass researches, writes and updates its content.

Our purpose

We help road riders, mountain bikers, commuters and beginners choose cycling gear and accessories that fits their needs. Our guides focus on checking fit and compatibility, such as valve types, mounts, cleat systems and sizing, before you buy helmets, lights, locks, tools and clothing.

How we research

  • We base our guides on manufacturer specifications and manuals, published safety standards and certification information, and component compatibility documentation.
  • We compare published specifications and explain what they mean for real tasks, instead of repeating marketing claims.
  • Where a guide covers safety, we link to the official source rather than restating it as our own advice.

What we do not do

  • We do not claim to have tested or used a product unless the article explicitly describes that use.
  • We do not invent test results, scores, star ratings, statistics, testimonials or reviews.
  • We do not publish hand-typed prices or “deal” claims, because they go out of date quickly.
  • We do not accept payment, free products in exchange for coverage, or sponsored placements in our guides.

Safety-sensitive topics

We do not publish our own torque values or repair procedures for safety-critical parts; follow the values printed on the part or in the manufacturer’s manual, and use a qualified bike mechanic when in doubt. No helmet or lock makes riding or parking risk-free.

Affiliate links

We earn commissions from some links, as explained in our Affiliate Disclosure. Commissions never decide which products we include or how we describe them, and articles with affiliate links say so before the first link.

Updates and corrections

We review guides when products, specifications or official guidance change, and we show the date a guide was last updated. If you find an error, please contact us with the page URL and details. We review every correction request and fix confirmed errors promptly.
